Interior Minister orders investigation into claims of inadequate feeding at Afokang Custodial Centre.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has expressed concern over a troubling video on Facebook alleging that inmates at the Afokang Custodial Centre in Calabar are being treated inhumanely, including being served poorly cooked beans for breakfast. In a statement released on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Alao Babatunde, the minister considered the incident as a severe violation of the care and dignity owed to inmates. He has ordered a thorough and urgent investigation, warning that those responsible will be held accountable. He also emphasized that any shortcomings in the quality of food, sanitation, and welfare of inmates will not be tolerated.

According to him, the Nigeria Correctional Service must ensure inmates are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.

” The findings of the investigation will be made public, and necessary disciplinary actions will be taken,” Tuunji-Ojo said in the statement.
