Minister orders the military to go after the killers of the Sokoto monarch.

The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, has condemned the brutal killing of Alhaji Isa Bawa, the Head of Gatawa District in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State. It was reported that the District Head was murdered by bandits, while his son, initially abducted, was released after a ransom of N60 million was paid.

In a statement released on Friday by his Director of Information and Public Relations, Henshaw Ogubike, the minister described the killing as “heinous and unacceptable,” calling it “a senseless and brutal act that will not be tolerated.” He emphasized that the government would do everything in its power to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

Matawalle has instructed the Chief of Defence Staff to launch an immediate and thorough investigation into the incident and to bring the perpetrators to justice. He highlighted that security is a top priority for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has been fully supporting the military.

The minister assured the public that the Armed Forces of Nigeria will exhaust all efforts to find those responsible for the crime and ensure they face justice. He also extended his deepest condolences to the family of the late District Head, the people of Gatawa, and the entire Sokoto State Government, reaffirming the government’s commitment to the safety and security of all Nigerians.
