Nigerian singer Korede Bello has disclosed his past experience with smoking, attributing his decision to start at a young age to the influence of his surroundings.
The “God Win” singer shared his journey on a recent installment of the “Say My Piece” podcast, hosted by actress Lolo1.
Bello remembered being introduced to smoking at a young age, as he observed his father smoking while growing up.
However, he eventually realized that it wasn’t his “thing” and successfully quit the habit.
He said …
“I tried weed before but it’s not my thing. Very early on in my life, I mean not in my life like when I was a child, but it was just something that people did around me also and this is something about myself I have a very addictive personality so whatever I find pleasurable it can turn into an addiction.”
Korede Bello shared that despite his father being a smoker who would frequently send him to purchase cigarettes, he also cautioned him against the habit.
“My dad used to smoke a lot of cigarettes and as a child, he used to send me to get him cigarettes. I noticed something then, he used to cough a lot so I’d ask him ‘Daddy why are you coughing?’ and he’d tell me ‘It’s because of the cigarette. So if you don’t wanna cough like me, don’t smoke’,” he added.
The musician attributes his father’s wise advice and his own life experiences for shaping his views on smoking. Through these, he firmly believes in the harmful and unhealthy effects of smoking, which served as a strong motivation for him to quit the habit.
