The House of Representatives’ Committee on Constitution Review is set to convene a high-level Legislative Dialogue on National Security Architecture today, in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
Themed “Nigeria’s Peace and Security: The Constitutional Imperatives,” the dialogue will be held at the National Counter Terrorism Centre, located within ONSA, Abuja.
According to a statement by the House Spokesman, Hon. Akin Rotimi, the event will bring together key figures in Nigeria’s security and governance space, including National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) Oluwatosin Ajayi, and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.
The session will also host legal and policy experts, civil society representatives, community leaders from high-risk regions, and members of the National Assembly.
The dialogue forms part of the House’s broader constitutional reform agenda aimed at addressing Nigeria’s pressing security challenges. A major focus will be on legislative proposals such as House Bill 617 (HB-617), which seeks to establish state police and overhaul the country’s current law enforcement structure.
Deputy Speaker of the House and Chairman of the Constitution Review Committee, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, will preside over the session. Goodwill messages are expected from the Speaker of the House, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, while President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address.
The legislative dialogue signals a renewed commitment by the National Assembly to explore constitutional pathways toward achieving lasting peace and a more secure Nigeria.
