Wema Bank Plc, Nigeria’s most innovative bank and creator of Africa’s first fully digital bank, ALAT, has been awarded Commercial Bank of the Year at the 2025 Nairametrics Capital Market Choice Awards, held on May 23 at the Civic Center in Lagos.
The award recognises Wema Bank’s outstanding financial performance, including a record ₦102 billion profit before tax in 2024, strong revenue growth, and one of the sector’s best returns on average equity. Its consistent shareholder value creation and leadership in digital banking set it apart in a highly competitive category.
Celebrating its 80th anniversary, the bank’s transformation from a regional lender to a digitally driven national force underscores its long-standing commitment to innovation and resilience.
