Jidekene makes jokes about not being nominated for an AMVCA for “A Tribe Called Judah.”

A Tribe Called Judah won five nominations, but none for Achufusi.

Five nominations for A Tribe Called Judah were received, but none for Achufusi.

Prior to the main ceremony in May of 2024, the AMVCA revealed nominees for a number of categories on Sunday, March 24, 2024. Among them were several renowned performers from films released in the previous year.

Funke Akindele’s A Tribe Called Judah was a box office success, grossing approximately ₦1.4 billion at theaters. Despite having a major role, Achufusi was not included in the film’s five nominations that were announced on Sunday night.

Nollywood fans swiftly voiced their displeasure with other noteworthy AMVCA omissions from the evening, particularly the removal of Tobi Makinde, Achufusi’s co-star, and Chimezie Imo, who played a pivotal role in Breath of Life.

However, Achufusi is annoyed that supporters haven’t supported him similarly, and on Wednesday, March 27, he expressed his frustration on Twitter.

“After delivering stellar performances in 2 of the top 3 films of 2024 but your snub isn’t trending,” he posted. He further asked what Imo and Makinde “put for una soup” for their notable snub to trend.

A Group Named Akindele, Collins Okoh, and Akinlabi Ishola for Best Writing; Feyisayo Oyebisi for Best Makeup; Timini Egbuson for Best Supporting Actor; and Akindele for Best Lead Actress were Judah’s nominees. Along with Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, Breath of Life, Over the Bridge, Blood Vessel, which also starred Achufusi, The Black Book, and Mami Wata, the action drama was nominated for Best Picture.

Over the Bridge, directed by Tolu Ajayi, had the most nominations of the evening—12 total—but its star, Ozzy Agu, was not nominated.
