Nigerian singer Dammy Krane, whose real name is Oyindamola Johnson Emmanuel, has been released from police custody. His detention at the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCID) in Abuja lasted a week and was reportedly related to defamation claims against his colleague, Davido.
Following his release, Dammy Krane apologized for his actions in a post on X, expressing regret to his fans and acknowledging his mistakes. He wrote, “I am sorry about everything. To my fans, if I still have fans, I am sorry. Moving forward, expect only good music from me.” He also acknowledged the high expectations placed on him and promised to focus on his music.
He wrote, “I want to apologize to Nigerians for the negative energy I have put up on the media before today. I know a lot was expected of me but I messed up. I wish I could take back the hand of time, but only God can, so I will do what I can, which is to apologize.
“I’m starting a prison reform foundation for the illegally detained.”
Dammy Krane accused Davido of orchestrating his arrest for defamation. On X, the singer urged netizens to hold Davido responsible if anything were to happen to him. Social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, known as Verydarkman, claimed that Dammy Krane’s arrest and detention were instigated by Davido. Verydarkman appealed for Dammy Krane’s release and urged Davido to free him. The conflict between Dammy Krane and Davido began in 2023 after Dammy Krane publicly criticized Davido over an alleged debt.
