Osun Govt Issues Directives to Tricycle Operators in Response to Insecurity Concerns

The Osun State Government has warned tricycle operators in the state to ensure they have all the necessary documents for their vehicles.

The state government issued this warning through a statement by Yakubu Adejare, the Special Adviser to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Transportation, on Thursday in Osogbo.

The government urged the tricycle operators to obtain documents such as a hackney permit, roadworthiness certificate, and vehicle license.

This statement from the Osun State government highlights the concern that tricycles (often referred to as “keke”) are being exploited by criminals for illegal activities. In response to this, the government has issued a directive requiring all tricycle operators to obtain and carry the necessary legal documents when operating. The absence of such documents will now be treated as a traffic offense.

The statement also indicates that enforcement will be strict, with the Osun State Traffic Management Authority (OTRAM) and Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) set to conduct stop-and-search operations. Tricycle operators who fail to comply will face full penalties and be treated as potential accomplices in criminal activities. This move aims to ensure the safety of residents by regulating the activities of tricycle operators and curbing the misuse of these vehicles for criminal purposes.
