Sean Kingston, the Jamaican-American vocalist, and his 61-year-old mother, Janice Turner, were apprehended subsequent to a raid at his leased Florida estate on Thursday, May 23.
Warrants disclosed by the Broward Sheriff’s Office on Friday, May 24, detail allegations that Kingston and his mother engaged in a coordinated effort to deceive businesses, leading to numerous charges of grand theft and fraud against them.
Turner was apprehended at the Florida property during the raid, while her son was detained in Fort Irwin, located in southern California, on charges related to fraud and theft pursuant to a warrant issued in Florida.
During the raid, authorities purportedly loaded U-Haul trucks with belongings and removed at least one vehicle parked in the driveway.
Between October 2023 and March of the current year, Kingston, his mother, and others, both identified and unidentified, purportedly acquired goods exceeding $100,000 in value from establishments such as Mazal Jewelry Inc., Maree Inc., Ocean Auto Club, and Expimled FL through deceptive means, as stated in the warrants.
These items comprised furniture valued at over $80,000, a Cadillac Escalade, and jewelry valued at more than $400,000.
Recently, court documents from Broward County, as reported by USA Today, indicate that Turner was sued by Curran Living Trust for $100,000 in rent arrears.
Additionally, Kingston is entangled in legal issues with Ver Ver Entertainment, which filed a lawsuit in February alleging breach of contract and fraud. The suit claims Kingston failed to pay for a 232-inch TV and premium sound system.
According to court filings, the company alleges Kingston leveraged his celebrity status, specifically his association with Justin Bieber, to negotiate the price. They are pursuing $30,000 in damages and attorney fees through a jury trial.
