In a major offensive against banditry in northern Nigeria, a joint operation carried out by the Nigerian Army and operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) has resulted in the killing of 45 bandits linked to the notorious kingpin, Dogo Gide.
The operation took place in the early hours of Monday, 2 June 2025, in Munya Local Government Area of Niger State. According to Zagazola Makama, a platform known for its security reports, the operation followed intelligence tracking of the bandits, who were reportedly preparing to launch another attack on Kuchi town and other nearby villages.
The assailants, said to number around 100 and armed with sophisticated weapons, had mobilised from Bilbis Forest in Zamfara State and areas of Kaduna State at the invitation of Dogo Gide. They were advancing toward Kuchi town when the joint security forces ambushed them on the outskirts.
A fierce gun battle ensued, leading to the death of 45 bandits, while several others were injured. Security forces also recovered motorcycles and a cache of ammunition from the scene.
Five operatives of the SSS sustained injuries during the engagement and are currently receiving treatment at a medical facility.
This operation comes just a week after bandits attacked Kuchi, burning a security base and rustling livestock. The area, particularly Munya LGA, has remained a hotspot for bandit activity over the years, suffering repeated assaults from groups including the late Ali Kawaje faction. Several communities—such as Kachiwe, Chibani, Injita, and Sarkin Pawa—have been impacted by these attacks.
The Nigerian military and security agencies continue to intensify efforts to restore peace and stability to affected regions.
