Soldier queries lack of acknowledgment as Tinubu showers Super Eagles with gifts

Adie Paul, a Nigerian soldier, has taken issue with President Bola Tinubu’s decision to give Super Eagles players houses, land parcels, and national honors after the team placed second in the just concluded African Cup of Nations, given that soldiers serving in combat do not receive similar recognition.

The soldier, who claimed to have been shot during his time serving in the Northeast, vented his annoyance on his X account.

He made his position known while reacting to a post by an X-user, drpenking, who tweeted, “Even Ahmed Musa wey no kick ball once for AFCON follow collect flat, land and OON. Wonderful times.”

“Yet, as a soldier, I stayed in the North East fighting Boko Haram for four years plus, I was shot and I am still carrying the bullet in me till date, not even a medal from the Army/Nigeria government,” the soldier commented in response to the post, attaching a photo.

Every member of the Super Eagles team that took home the silver medal at the AFCON was given the national honor of Member of the Order of the Niger by Tinubu on Tuesday.
