Court halts NBTE, PCN’s bid To scrap HND in Pharmaceutical Technology

Three suspects have been remanded by an Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court in connection with the murder of 36-year-old farmer Sunday Ayeni in Uba Oka-Akoko, Ondo State. The defendants, Abdullah Halilu Tumbi (59), Mohamodu Adamu Bonkolo (50), and Shagari Muhammed (45), were charged with two counts.

The incident occurred on August 10, when Ayeni was allegedly attacked and killed by suspected herders on his farm, following compensation he had received for crop damage caused by the herders’ cattle.

Police Prosecutor Folashade Adeyemi stated that the defendants, along with others at large, conspired to kill Ayeni by stabbing him with a cutlass while he was working on his farm. The charge alleges that the attack led to Ayeni’s death.

The prosecutor informed the court that the charges violated Sections 316, 319, and 324 of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, 2006, and requested that the defendants be remanded at a correctional facility in the state while awaiting advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The Chief Magistrate, A. Akinboboye, not taking the pleas of the defendants, ordered their remand at the Olokuta Correctional Centre and that the case file be duplicated and sent to DPP, with the case adjourned until December for mention.
