Nigerian-South African beauty queen, Chidimma Adetshina, has shared the personal challenges she encountered during her pageantry journey.
In a recent interview on the Big Friday Show with host Tacha from Big Brother Naija, she opened up about struggling with identity issues stemming from her dual citizenship.
When questioned about her decision to pursue pageantry full-time, Chidimma expressed her ambition to strive for the title of Miss Universe.
“I think it’s something I started recently; however, I’ve had this dream since 2017 to become the next Miss Universe. I’m really glad I have been given the platform and the opportunity to at least try and reach that goal,” she said.
Chidinma also shared how she coped with the identity crisis, saying, “It’s been a long journey, often very tough. There were nights I cried myself to sleep, asking, ‘Why me?’. But I had to change my perspective to see the potential for greatness in these challenges.”
This interview follows after Chidinma withdrew from the Miss South Africa pageant following allegations of fraud and identity theft involving her mother by the South African Home Office. Chidinma faced backlash in South Africa when she was announced as a contestant in Miss South Africa.
Later, she received an invitation from the Silverbird Group to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, which she accepted.
