Eagles are about to play elephants in a crucial AFCON match, and Paseiro says victory depends on God’s favor.

When the Super Eagles take on the hosts Ivory Coast in their second Group A match of the 2023 AFCON on Thursday (today) at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan, coach José Peseiro says he will stick to his previous game plan.

The Super Eagles and Elephants will play each other for the ninth time in the AFCON. The previous two meetings between the two teams ended in stalemate, with each team winning three times.

“We have what it takes to win the game and I won’t change my strategy because we create chances. Of course, we don’t have excuses but the point is that me and my staff have also seen the issues. From the last game, we deserve much more and we will create more opportunities. Like I said before, sometimes God takes, sometimes God gives, if it’s the right time, God will give us,”At the news conference, Peseiro told reporters.

Prior to the game, Ivory Coast captain Max-Alain Gradel issued a caution to the Eagles.

With 105 caps, Gradel—who was a member of the team that won the 2015 AFCON in Equatorial Guinea—warned that on match day, they would make their supporters proud despite their respect for their neighbors in West Africa.
