Tomeka Thiam, wife of Senegalese-American singer Akon, has filed for divorce just days before what would have been their 29th wedding anniversary.
According to court documents filed on Thursday, September 11, 2025, in Fulton County, Georgia, Tomeka is seeking the dissolution of her marriage to the music star on the grounds of irreconcilable differences.
She is also requesting joint legal custody of their 17-year-old daughter, with visitation rights granted to Akon. In addition, Tomeka is asking the court to award her spousal support, while urging that Akon’s request for the same be denied.
Tomeka and Akon, who married in September 1996, have shared nearly three decades together before her decision to formally end the union.
