Governor Chukwuma Soludo is set to establish a new airport in Ndikelionwu, Orumba North Local Government Area, as part of his administration’s strategy to transform Anambra State into a smart mega city.
During a site inspection, Mr. Martins Nwafor, Managing Director of Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport, Umueri, said the visit was to identify a suitable location for the new airport and a proposed industrial park under an aerotropolis framework.
Nwafor, who also chairs the newly inaugurated Airport and Aerotropolis Committee, described the project as a “game-changer” that would unlock economic opportunities in the state. He explained that integrating aviation infrastructure with industrial, residential, and logistics facilities would create a dynamic airport-driven city capable of attracting investment and boosting industrialization.
Community leaders in Ndikelionwu welcomed the initiative. Hon. Fabian Nwosu, former President-General of the Ndikelionwu Welfare Association, and Hon. Ifesinachi Chukwurah Onwurah, the association’s Vice President, thanked the state government for siting the project in their community. They pledged cooperation, support, and security to ensure its successful execution.
Among those present during the tour were Prof. Charles O. Ofoegbu, MD/CEO of the Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited; retired Air Vice Marshal Ben Chiobi, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security; Architect Chukwudi Ezenwa, founder of Sliding Towers; traditional rulers and elders of Ndikelionwu.
Geologists and geophysicists from the Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited, who conducted mapping of the site, were also in attendance.
