Resident Doctors Declare Five-Day Warning Strike from Friday

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has declared a five-day nationwide warning strike beginning Friday, September 12, 2025, to press home its demands.

The development was confirmed in a statement on Thursday by the General Secretary of the Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Capital Territory Administration, Agbor Affiong.

According to the statement, the decision followed an online meeting of NARD’s National Executive Council (NEC) held on Wednesday, September 10, which extended into the early hours of Thursday.

“Arising from the NARD E-NEC meeting, the NEC members unanimously resolved to embark on a five-day warning strike. The strike will commence at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025, and end on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. All centres are hereby directed to duly inform their hospital managements and continue to press home our collective demands,” the statement read.

Earlier in the week, NARD President, Dr. Osundara Zenith, said members were set to shut down public hospitals over poor working conditions, inadequate power supply, certificate downgrading, poor remuneration, and other grievances.

This action comes as the FCT branch of the Association of Resident Doctors is already observing a separate seven-day warning strike, which commenced on Monday.
