Kebbi CP Decorates 37 Officers Promoted to DSP

The Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, on Thursday decorated 37 newly promoted officers with their new ranks of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

The ceremony, which took place at the State Police Headquarters in Birnin Kebbi, elevated the officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) to DSP as part of a nationwide promotion exercise approved by the Police Service Commission in collaboration with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

While congratulating the promotees on behalf of the IGP, CP Sani charged them to view their elevation as a call to greater responsibility. He urged the officers to remain professional, disciplined, and committed to their duties while avoiding corruption and upholding the fundamental rights of citizens.

“You must see this promotion as a higher call to service. Remain dedicated, respect human rights, and shun unethical practices,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the newly decorated officers, DSP Ahmed Abubakar expressed appreciation to the IGP and the Police Service Commission for the recognition, pledging renewed commitment to professionalism and effective policing.

The event was attended by the command’s management team, family members, friends, and well-wishers.

Security analysts say the promotions are expected to boost morale within the command and strengthen leadership in divisional offices and specialised units, particularly as Kebbi continues to grapple with challenges such as banditry, cattle rustling, and kidnapping in rural areas.

Promotions in the Nigeria Police Force are typically based on service years, performance records, and adherence to professional ethics, with emphasis on discipline, respect for human rights, and community-oriented policing.

The decoration ceremony not only recognised individual achievements but also reinforced the broader drive to professionalise the force, deepen public trust, and enhance security delivery in Kebbi State.
