Former Super Eagles Goalkeeper, Peter Rufai Is Dead

Ex-Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai has passed on. Dodo Mayana as he is fondly called, died at the age of 61.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced his demise on Thursday, July 3rd, 2025 via its official X handle (formerly Twitter).

The post reads; “Forever in our hearts, Dodo Mayana. We mourn the passing of legendary Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, a giant of Nigerian football and a 1994 AFCON champion.”

“Your legacy lives on between the sticks and beyond. Rest well, Peter Rufai,” the tribute read.

For those who don’t know, Peter Rufai was part of the golden generation that lifted Nigeria’s second AFCON title in Tunisia in 1994. He made 65 appearances for the national team.

Peter Rufai represented the Nigeria at the 1994 and 1998 FIFA World Cup tournaments.
