Kano Police Arrest 51 in Crackdown on Criminal Hideouts, Recover Weapons and Drugs

The Kano State Police Command has arrested no fewer than 51 suspects and recovered dangerous weapons and illicit drugs following a coordinated clearance operation across several criminal hideouts in the Kano metropolis.

The intelligence-led operation, which spanned three days from Friday to Sunday, targeted high-risk areas in Kano Municipal, Dala, Gwale, and Tarauni Local Government Areas. Specific locations raided included Kofar Mata, Zage, Kurna, Rijiyar Lemo, Dorayi, Hotoro, and Sheka Quarters.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, described the operation as part of the command’s ongoing efforts to combat thuggery and related criminal activities in the state.

“The command is fully determined to decisively tackle thuggery and its associated crimes,” Abdullahi stated. “Fifty-one suspects were arrested, and dangerous weapons and illicit drugs were recovered.”

Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, also issued a stern warning against the use of weapons during traditional events such as “Kidan Gangi.” He expressed growing concern over the display of weapons on social media platforms including TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter), noting that such acts glamorise violence and encourage youth involvement in gang activities.

“Anyone caught engaging in such acts will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly,” Bakori warned.

He further cautioned parents, guardians, and blacksmiths against aiding or concealing weapons, stressing that those found culpable would be held accountable under the law.

The Commissioner urged the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity, assuring residents that the command would continue to intensify efforts to maintain peace and security across the state.

For emergencies or to report suspicious behavior, the public is advised to contact the police through these hotlines: 08032600299, 08032600300, and 08032600301.
