Nigeria Police Rescue 12 Trafficked Children, Recover Illegal Arms in Kogi and Abia

The Nigeria Police Force has recorded major breakthroughs in ongoing operations against crime, rescuing 12 trafficked children and recovering a cache of illegal arms in coordinated raids across Kogi and Abia States.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Force revealed that officers of the Kogi State Police Command intercepted a green Sharon vehicle that sped through a security checkpoint. A high-speed chase ensued, forcing the driver to abandon the vehicle and flee into nearby bushes.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of five AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, 283 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, 62 rounds of 5.56mm, and two rounds of 7.62x59mm ammunition. Preliminary investigations suggest the weapons may be linked to a recent armed robbery at a fuel station in Kabba.

Meanwhile, in Abia State, police operatives rescued 12 children suspected to be victims of child trafficking and arrested two suspects in connection with the crime. Authorities say investigations are ongoing to dismantle the syndicate and reunite the children with their families.

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to public safety, vowing to intensify efforts to curb crime and protect vulnerable groups across the country.
