APC leaders in Agege and Orile Agege unanimously back Vinod Obasa and Akinola Idowu for council chairmanship ahead of July polls

Leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Agege Local Government Area and Orile Agege Local Council Development Area have declared their unanimous support for Abdulganiyu Vinod Obasa and Akinola Idowu to contest for the chairmanship of their respective councils in the upcoming July election.

At a high-powered meeting attended by political heavyweights including Hon. Wale Ahmed, Hon. Taofeek Adaranijo, Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo, Hon. Tajudeen Afolabi, and Richard Oshungboye, party leaders resolved to support the younger Obasa’s chairmanship aspiration and called on Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, to back his son’s bid.

Also present were Agege LGA Chairman, Hon. Ganiyu Egunjobi; Orile Agege LCDA Chairman, Hon. Johnson Babatunde; Agege Vice Chairman, Hon. Gbenga Abiola; Hon. Jubril Abdul Kareem, Lagos Assembly member; Chief Safari Adaranijo, Alhaji Tunde Disco, Hon. Salaudeen Olaniyi, and former chairmen Rotimi Adesina and Chief Owolabi Dada.

Speaking on behalf of the community and party elders, Egunjobi said:

Vinod has the professional and political experience, exposure, education, and capacity to take Agege to a new height. We see him as a worthy youth leader ready to serve.”

He highlighted Obasa’s qualifications, including UK-acquired degrees in Accounting and Finance, a PhD pursuit at Babcock University, and past roles at PWC, Providus Bank, and Parallex Bank, where he served as Head of Performance Management and Strategy.

Now a businessman in real estate and farming, Vinod also runs VINOD FA, a football academy helping young talents secure international deals.

Egunjobi continued

Over four footballers from his academy are already in Europe close to signing professional contracts. With this, we see another Kunle Soname in the making.”

He stressed that supporting Vinod also honours the humanitarian contributions of the Speaker, saying:

“Rt. Hon. Obasa has lifted countless families out of poverty. For us, this is payback time.”

The two-term chairman noted the importance of giving young leaders like Vinod and Idowu a chance, citing the youth-driven nature of current council leadership.

Regarding Akinola Idowu, Egunjobi described him as:

“A dedicated leader with grassroots experience and deep understanding of Orile Agege’s aspirations.”

However, political sources revealed that Speaker Obasa has maintained his stance on a fair contest, insisting that all aspirants must compete on a level playing field.
