Six people are charged by police with piracy related to the movie “Malaika,” directed by Toyin Abraham.

Six defendants have been charged by the Lagos State Police Command before the Igbosere Chief Magistrate’s Court for the alleged piracy of actress Toyin Abraham

“Malaika” had its theatrical debut on December 22, 2023, after having its debut in Lagos on December 17, 2023.

Chief Magistrate E. Ogunkanmi was presented with the defendants, Adekunle Segun, Kehinde Oseni, Adebiyi Sodiq, Oseni S. Akano, Adebiyi Suliat, and Agboola Motunrayo, on Tuesday by police counsel from the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Force CID, Alagbon, in Ikoyi, Lagos.

They faced accusations of cybercrimes, piracy, conspiracy, and theft of intellectual property.

In January 2024 in Apapa, the suspects planned and executed the claimed illegal conduct, according to the prosecution, Morufu Animashaun, who testified in court.

He continued by saying that the defendants had broken sections 411, 972, 415, and 87 of the Lagos State, 2015, Criminal Laws.

To the charges, the defendants entered a not guilty plea.

Animashaun begged the court to hold them in detention until the matter was settled.
