In pursuit of the THEME Plus transformation Agenda aimed at delivering a sustainable multimodal transportation system across the state, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos departed for Beijing, the capital of China, on Tuesday. The tour will encompass the country’s capital and other civil construction hubs.
According to a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, the trip is also focused on finalizing deals related to the Train Mass Transit System – Blue Line and Red Line – as well as engaging in bilateral trade discussions.
During his visit to China, Governor Sanwo-Olu will engage in trade and investment discussions with top officials of China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC), which is responsible for the construction of the groundbreaking 37-kilometer Lagos 4th Mainland Bridge scheduled for the first quarter of the current year.
Additionally, the Governor will inspect the headquarters of CCECC and ongoing projects in Beijing, including the Signalling System (CBTC etc.) and Metro projects. Later in the week, he will visit the headquarters of China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation and CRRC Lvshun base in Dalian, where he will hold a high-level meeting with the Head of China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation, CRRC Dalian.
The statement further mentioned that there will be technical discussions on the Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) for the Red Line and Electric Multiple Units (EMUs) for the Blue Line, involving representatives from Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC), and China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) Dalian.
Accompanying Governor Sanwo-Olu on the trip are key officials from his government, including the Honorable Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Seun Osiyemi, Managing Director of LAMATA, Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, Director of Rail Transport, Mr. Olasunkanmi Okusaga, as well as some members of the State House of Assembly. The delegation is expected to return to the country after one week.
