On Tuesday, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the Leader of the Senate, urged security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the murders of the Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti, Oba Olatunde Samuel Olusola, and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba David Babatunde Ogunsola. Bamidele also denounced the abduction of students and educators from a private school in Emure Ekiti, Emure Local Government Area, urging a swift rescue operation by a coordinated effort of security agencies.
According to a statement released by his Directorate of Media and Public Affairs on Tuesday, the Senate leader emphasized the urgent need for the unconditional release of the remaining kidnap victims, directing security agencies to actively pursue the abductors.
On Monday, armed individuals ambushed and fatally wounded the Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti while they were returning from a meeting. The Alara of Ara-Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Fatoba, reportedly managed to escape the attack.
Bamidele expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences to the affected communities and the entire state for the loss of the monarchs. He pledged to collaborate with Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, utilizing legislative measures to enhance the security of lives and properties in the state.
Regarding the abducted school children, Bamidele condemned the perpetrators as heartless and stressed the importance of ensuring they face justice once apprehended. He vowed to maintain close communication with Governor Oyebanji to monitor developments until all the children are safely rescued, emphasizing the collective effort needed to swiftly reunite them with their families.
He said: “I promise to work with Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji to come up with legislative measures that will enhance effective policing of all communities in Ekiti State and beyond.
“The killing of traditional rulers is a sacrilege. We will fold our hands and allow criminal elements to desecrate our traditional institutions; destroy lives and property in the state and push the state in palpable fear.
“The National Assembly is ready to partner with the Ekiti state government to use the instrumentality of the law to ensure the security of lives and property. I therefore call on all security agencies in the state to work together and fish the killers of two traditional rulers and rescue all the abducted pupils and teachers.
