Fela Anikulapo Kuti the late Legendary music genius was a revolutionary freedom fighter,an activist,a religion,a culture, a movement, a trail blazer and the founding father of todays world acclaimed Afro beat music genre with a massive cult following even in death.
Abami Eda revolutionalised todays music culture and cannot in any way be compared to any African musician dead or alive not to talk of the young Wizzy.
Relevant comparasions can only be drawn between Abami Eda and the Legendary Jamaican Reggae music Icon Bob Marley.
In retrospect my personal driving force for initiatiing the Felabration project so many years ago was catalysed looking at the way the late Bob Marley was celebrated and idolised globally.
I most sincerely believed that the great Abami Eda was at the same level if not greater than the Legendary Robert Nesta Marley and as such should also be idolised and celebrated on a yearly basis hence the initiative to create Felebration …the annual celebration of the great Abami Eda the activist, multi instrumentalist ,song writer and producer as coined by my very humble self.
Yes like most Fela Adoras am not a biological son of the great Abami Eda but we all know and aknowkedge the fact that Abami Eda had millions of disciples and children across the diaspora thou not biological hence my very liberal disposition after my fallout with Yeni on the Felabration project.
A celebration of Abami Eda is a celebration of Afro beat, Nigerian Music ,the story of the Nigerian human rights struggle amongst others.
The history and story of the Enigmatic Abami Eda who lived way before his time should indeed be a strategic creative case study in our Universities today for our genzys but for obvious political reasons.
The spat between my creative brothers Seun Kuti and Wizzy begs for attention ,knowkedge enlightenment and of course caution.
First and foremost no one in his or her right thinking mind can compare Wizzy to the great Abami Eda unless na April fools day.
The mad Love for Fela and his music way before Spotify, Boomplay and indeed Social media trancends global barriers even the military that he fought endlessly throughout his career adored him in private.
I dont want to delve too much into the Seun kuti, Wizzy and the Wizz FCs gbas gbos as that could obviously be personal but emphatically dragging Felas name into it is a definite non starter and a no no.
My boy Wizzy is today one of Naijas top artists earning mega in dollars but guess what Afrobeat,the Legacy the genre, the style wey dey drop the dollar was created by the great one himself the Abami Eda.
In terms of comparison Wizzy can objectively be compared to his peers Davido and Burna with no eyebrows raised.
They are all making mega millions on the same Afrobeat Legacy created by Abami Eda and sincerely very proudly so.
Seuns outburst coupled with his sister Motunrayos followup comes from a place of Family loyalty ,truth and the entitlement of protecting the rightful Legacy of there Dad as biological children thou very emotional and rightfully so but could have been controlled.
The long protracted beef between Seun and Wizzy also help gas light the mata with the Wizz FC clan.
Did Seun at any point in time refer to VDM as the new Fela or did anyone ever refer to Wizzy has todays Fela ? This statements above na the petrol wey join light the fire.
Fela has millions of passionate children biological and otherwise across the diaspora, Wizzy also as millions of genzy fans (Wizz FC ) globally with there mindset being to protect there man at any time at all costs.
Emotions are running high and wild but the truth remains emphatic,there is absolutely no comparison.
Wizzy has personally reaffirmed the Legendary Status of the Abami Eda with a painstaking tatoo of the great one his musical Icon boldly printed on his Arm, haba ….wetin remain nah.
