Tension Rises as Anambra Governor’s Wife, Senator Ekwunife Trade Words

Political tensions in Anambra State have escalated following a heated exchange between Dr. Nonye Soludo, wife of the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, and Senator Uche Ekwunife, the deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The dispute was triggered after Governor Soludo questioned the validity of the doctoral degree presented by Ekwunife to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the November 8 governorship election, alleging that the awarding institution was unaccredited.

In her response, Senator Ekwunife made comments that drew in the governor’s wife, prompting Dr. Soludo to issue a strongly worded statement. She described the remarks as attempts to tarnish her reputation and family, insisting that her marriage and private life should not be dragged into partisan politics.

“I have lived a private and quiet family life, and I will not allow false claims to go unchallenged,” Dr. Soludo said, adding that her commitment remains to support her husband while upholding her personal values. She further cautioned that unless the allegations against her were withdrawn, she might pursue legal action.

Dr. Soludo also highlighted her professional background, emphasizing that she has built her career as an entrepreneur independent of public funds, and carries out her duties as first lady with integrity.

The development has stirred debates within Anambra political circles, with many stakeholders urging both camps to shift focus to policy and governance issues as the election draws near.
