The National Sports Commission (NSC) has reaffirmed its support for Team Nigeria ahead of the 2025 World Athletics Championships scheduled to hold in Tokyo from September 13 to 21.
In a statement on Thursday, Kola Daniel, media aide to the NSC Director-General, Bukola Olopade, said the athletes had the full backing of the commission and the Nigerian people.
“From the beginning, the NSC chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, declared that Nigeria must get it right in athletics,” Olopade said. “This is a moment of pride. We trust our athletes to compete with determination and secure podium finishes. The commission will continue to support them and stand behind them as they fly our flag in Tokyo.”
Olopade confirmed he would be in Tokyo to provide frontline support to the delegation throughout the competition.
The 15-member squad is led by world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, and long jump star Ese Brume. The team also includes a mix of experienced and emerging talents across sprints, jumps, throws, and hurdles.
