2027: Canada-based AI expert declares for Ogun gov race

A Canada-based Artificial Intelligence expert, Dr. Biodun Ogundipe, has declared his intention to contest the Ogun State governorship election in 2027 under the African Democratic Congress.

Ogundipe, who spoke with journalists on Tuesday in Abeokuta, dismissed the chances of the Peoples Democratic Party in the forthcoming race, claiming that the real contest would be between the ADC and the ruling All Progressives Congress.

“With the PDP’s recent decision to adopt President Bola Tinubu of the APC as its 2027 presidential candidate, it is clear that the party in Ogun has stylishly fused itself into the ruling party,” Ogundipe said.

He expressed confidence that the ADC, with its “lofty programmes aimed at freeing Nigerians from APC-inflicted suffering and bad governance,” would form the next government in the state.

“My chances are very bright. The governorship race will definitely be between us, the ADC, and the APC, come next year. PDP in Ogun State has endorsed APC already.

“If by the grace of God I get our party’s ticket, I will go to the field and tell the people what they stand to gain if they allow me to lead them,” he said.

Ogundipe, an AI engineer, said youth empowerment through artificial intelligence would be one of his key focus areas if elected. “I’m an AI expert, and that’s where I make my money. Some of these machines reduce human intervention in critical services, but in Nigeria, we haven’t even scratched the surface yet.

“AI can take jobs, but it can also bring value. Look at journalism; ChatGPT is from OpenAI. They were sued in Canada for using news content to train the model, and they paid about $100 million in compensation. In Nigeria, our leaders are not speaking for the people to get such benefits,” he noted.

He criticised the APC government in the state, accusing it of failing to position Nigeria for economic advancement.

“Most of our leaders lack the ideas to make Nigeria earn revenue in dollars. Instead, they prefer to keep sealing companies, markets, and garages to generate funds,” he added.
