In a dramatic turn of events, popular Ibadan-based broadcaster and founder of Agidigbo 88.7 FM, Oriyomi Hamzat, has officially lifted the ban on songs by Nigerian artiste, Naira Marley.
The ban, which had been in place since early 2024, was imposed in response to public outrage following the untimely death of Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, a former signee of Marlian Records, who passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27. Allegations of foul play had trailed the incident, with Naira Marley, born Azeez Fashola, facing intense scrutiny and criticism from various quarters, including Hamzat himself.
Speaking on his radio show on Tuesday, Hamzat said, “Now at Agidigbo Radio Station, we have lifted our legs to march Satan and overcome obstacles.”
In a symbolic move to reinstate Naira Marley’s music on the station’s playlist, Hamzat directed that the singer’s hit track, “Tesumole,” be played immediately—signalling a new chapter in what had been a contentious narrative.
“From today onward, I am raising the ban that was placed on the singer’s tracks at Agidigbo FM. We can now be playing Naira Marley songs at our radio station,” he affirmed.
The development has sparked widespread conversation among fans, industry watchers, and listeners, many of whom have commended the broadcaster’s boldness in acknowledging his error, while others continue to reflect on the broader issues surrounding Mohbad’s tragic death and its fallout in the entertainment industry.
