Ogudu–Ifako Bridge repair: LASTMA urges motorists’ full compliance

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority on Sunday announced that the government would start the second phase of rehabilitation works on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge in Kosofe Local Government Area on Tuesday, August 19, till October 1, 2025.

It was learnt that the exercise would focus on restoring the bridge’s expansion joints inbound Lagos Island.

This was communicated in a statement by the LASTMA Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq.

The General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the statement noted, disclosed that motorists coming from the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and Toll Gate would be diverted into a single lane around the construction zone.

“In this regard, vehicular traffic will be streamlined into a single lane approximately 50 metres before the designated work zone, with full access restored 50 metres beyond the construction site”, he said.

He explained that motorists bound for Oshodi may advantageously employ the Ojota Slip Road, seamlessly linking to Ikorodu Road inbound Anthony by the Taxi Park.

He advised the Victoria Island-bound drivers to take the Ojota Slip Road to Anthony, connecting through Gbagada and then the Third Mainland Bridge. Another option, he said, is to use Ikorodu Road to Funsho Williams Avenue and link Eko Bridge. Bakare-Oki also urged motorists originating from Ikeja and adjoining precincts to travel through Maryland, connect with Ikorodu Road/Funsho Williams Avenue, and thereafter proceed via Eko Bridge to Outer Marina and its adjoining corridors.

“Alternatively, they may link Ikorodu Road inbound Anthony (by Taxi Park) to Oshodi and pursue their onward destinations”, he added.

He assured the motorists that LASTMA officers had been deployed to control traffic, enforce discipline, and respond to emergencies.

“Motorists are profoundly enjoined to exercise patience, prudence, and civic obligation as the partial closure of the bridge represents a vital component of the state’s overarching traffic management architecture designed to deliver enduring infrastructural dividends for the collective well-being of Lagosians,” he said.

The LASTMA boss disclosed that mini and heavy-duty towing apparatus, together with other requisite road infrastructure, had been stationed along diversion routes and critical intersections within the metropolis to promptly address breakdowns, vehicular mishaps, or other exigencies, while also guiding motorists appropriately.

The statement warned that anyone caught driving against traffic (one-way), or flouting traffic laws would be prosecuted before the  Lagos State Mobile Court.

Bakare-Oki commended motorists for their cooperation during the first phase of the project and urged road users to report incidents and emergencies via the agency’s hotline, 080000527862.
