Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has rewarded the Kauran Gwandu Football Club with a cash donation of ₦20 million in recognition of their back-to-back victories in the Birnin Kebbi Youths Soccer League for the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 seasons.
Idris announced on Sunday at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi while receiving the trophies presented to him by the club’s Team Manager, Abubakar Sadiq Bullet.
The governor, visibly elated by the team’s consistent performance, praised both the players and the management for their dedication and outstanding achievements.
“I am proud of the team. This club was founded even before I ventured into politics and became governor.
“Since then, I have been personally sponsoring it. This is my private team, not a government-owned club,” he said.
He encouraged the players to remain focused and continue their pursuit of excellence, stating that sports serve not only as a tool for physical and mental development but also as a platform for youth empowerment and economic engagement.
“Even in defeat, make sure your opponents speak of your professionalism and resilience.
“This ₦20 million donation is to motivate the team to aim even higher,” the governor added.
Earlier, Team Manager Abubakar Sadiq Bullet informed the governor that the club had not only retained the league title for two seasons but also qualified for the final of the Dutsinmari Cup Competition.
“Your Excellency, your unwavering support, both financial and moral, has been instrumental to our success.
“We are here to present these trophies and to thank you for your fatherly role in the team’s progress,” Bullet stated.
During the visit, the team captain also decorated Governor Idris with the club’s championship medal as a token of appreciation.
The governor pledged continued support for the club, emphasising the importance of sports in building discipline, teamwork, and opportunity among young people in the state.
