Singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has paid tribute to his late son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, describing him as a “legend” in a short post that stirred strong reactions from fans and colleagues.
The emotional message was posted via his official X account on Monday, July 22, 2025, at exactly 9:39pm.
Davido wrote, “Ifeanyi David Adedeji Adeleke RIP LEGEND!!”
As of press time, the post had gained over 1.9 million views, more than 5,000 reposts and 41,000 likes.
This is one of the few times the singer has publicly addressed the loss since the tragic incident in 2022.
Ifeanyi, Davido’s first son with wife Chioma Rowland, died on November 1 2022, after reportedly drowning in the family’s Banana Island home.
The death shocked the entertainment industry and left fans heartbroken.
Following Monday’s post, several X users and celebrities poured in condolences and prayers.
One verified user, @bigHotbaby1, wrote, “May his sweet soul continue to RIP. We love you Ifeanyi Adeleke,” alongside a crying emoji and a heart.
Another fan, @mrsam_akp, simply said, “RIP :sparkles::sparkles:”
A verified user @SosaOfTogo also posted a heart-wrenching black-and-white photo of Davido cuddling Ifeanyi, which also went viral.
In May 2025, Davido had revealed in an interview with Apple Music’s Ebro Darden that his newborn son, one of the twins born in October 2023, bears an “uncanny” resemblance to Ifeanyi.
He said, “And the boy looks just like my son (Ifeanyi) that passed. It is scary. It’s like literally him. We’re like, ‘No, it’s him. He came back’ type stuff.”
The singer, who secretly married Chioma after their son’s death, later held a grand wedding ceremony in June 2024.
Speaking on how the loss changed his life, Davido said, “That type of loss made you just be like, ‘I’m out’. I am just going to chill, take care of my wife and take care of the family and get my head right.”
He added that the arrival of the twins, the success of his Timeless album, and his marriage helped him regain strength and reaffirm his faith, saying, “God is real.
