Kogi Government Assures Public on Safety of Minor, Urges Caution in Media Coverage

The Kogi State Government has assured the public that a young girl involved in a recent incident that drew widespread concern is now in safe custody and receiving proper care.

In a statement released by the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, the government expressed gratitude to concerned citizens and stakeholders for their swift intervention and for drawing attention to the case.

According to the Commissioner, the matter has been formally reported to the relevant authorities, and investigations are currently ongoing to ensure that justice is served.

The Ministry emphasized that, in line with the Child Rights Law of Kogi State (2009) and the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015, the public and media are strongly advised against sharing unblurred images, videos, or any identifying information of the minor. Such actions, officials warn, could cause further trauma, lead to stigmatization, and affect the child’s reintegration into society.

“The Ministry remains committed to ensuring justice, healing, and protection for all children and survivors of abuse across the state,” the statement read.

The Commissioner further assured that the case is receiving the full attention it deserves and called on the public to rely solely on verified information from official government channels.
