‘Nigerians need tangible democratic gains, life-saving support’

A Northern group, Arewa Think Tank (ATT), has said democratic governance should translate into tangible improvements in citizens’ lives.

Convener of ATT, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, said this in a statement on Sunday, while commending the lawmaker representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, James Faleke, for his “uncommon commitment to the security and wellbeing of the people of Kogi.”

Recently, Faleke donated a brand-new Hilux patrol vehicle to support the operations of the newly commissioned Smart Police Divisional Headquarters in Ekinrin-Adde, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Yakubu noted that the high-tech vehicle was facilitated by the Nigeria Police Trust Funds in collaboration with the government of Kogi State to ensure security at every corner of the state by modernising and digitising security operations in the State.

“We are confident that Faleke’s latest intervention would significantly strengthen security not only in Ijumu local government area, but across Okunland, Kogi West, and the entire State. This is how to make an impact without playing to the gallery.

“What the people need are verifiable dividends of democracy and interventions that can save lives, not selfish personal interests at the expense of the people.

“We want to use this opportunity to advise the Kogi State government to do close monitoring of the donated vehicle for maximum and beneficial advantages to the people because Faleke is not doing this to protect a personal interest or the investment of his friends. But he is doing it to protect the Kogi people in general,” the statement said.
