Katsina, Kebbi Govts Declare Friday Work-Free To Mark Islamic New Year

The holiday is to enable civil servants and residents to join other faithful in celebrating the year, and to reflect on its spiritual significance.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Secretary to the Katsina State Government, Abdullahi Faskari, noted that Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina extended his heartfelt congratulations to all Muslims in the state and across the country on witnessing the new Islamic Calendar.

The governor also called on the people of Katsina State to continue to live in peace and harmony with one another.

He emphasised that no meaningful development could take place without peace and stability. Radda reassured his administration’s commitment to delivering people-oriented projects that would improve the lives of the people.

The Katsina governor also reiterated his call on farmers and beneficiaries of government agricultural support to make judicious use of the fertilizers, tractors, and other farming implements distributed to enhance food security during the ongoing rainy season.

He therefore urged farmers to desist from illegal encroachment of all cattle routes, forests, and grazing reserves.

Radda prayed for continued peace, unity, and prosperity in Katsina State and Nigeria at large.Similarly, Kebbi State Government announced the public holiday in a statement by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Establishment, Pension and Training, Malami A. Maiyama, and issued to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.

“This is to enable public servants to celebrate the commencement of the Islamic New Year of 1447. However, normal work will resume on Monday, June 30, 2025. All are to ensure compliance, please,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, a devastating windstorm has destroyed some schools and staff quarters in the Funtua District of the state.

The severe windstorm that occurred late Sunday caused significant damage to school infrastructure and staff quarters across multiple educational institutions in the affected area.

In a statement, the Katsina State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education expressed the government’s heartfelt sympathy to the schools, staff, and the families affected by the mishap.

“With profound sorrow and complete submission to the will of Allah, the Katsina State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education announces the devastating impact of a severe storm that struck the Funtua Senatorial zone on the evening of June 22, 2025,” the statement read in part.

“The storm caused significant damage to school infrastructure and staff quarters across multiple educational institutions in the affected area.”
