June 12: Youth Groups Vow to Counter Anti-Government Protesters, Plan Solidarity March in Major Cities

In a bold statement marking Nigeria’s Democracy Day, a coalition of youth groups under the Green Assembly Initiative has announced plans for a peaceful solidarity march in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt. The group also issued a stern warning against any individuals or organizations intending to stage anti-government protests.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, the coalition’s chairman, Duke Alamboye, reaffirmed the group’s support for the current administration and its commitment to preserving peace and democratic stability in the country.

“We, the Green Assembly Initiative and other youth bodies, extend our heartfelt congratulations to Nigerians and the leadership of the present government for sustaining democracy,” Alamboye stated.

He called on all citizens to pray for the nation and its leaders while urging Nigerian youths to remain peaceful and law-abiding amidst reports of planned protests.

“We are not part of these protest plans and strongly dissociate ourselves from any agenda aimed at disrupting national peace. Any attempt to disrupt our solidarity march will be met with decisive action,” Alamboye warned.

He further praised the contributions of the president, his cabinet, governors, and citizens in upholding democratic values, acknowledging the country’s ongoing challenges while encouraging unity.

“As we celebrate Democracy Day, we emphasize the importance of cooperation, national pride, and faith in our democratic journey,” he concluded.

The group urged security agencies to remain vigilant and ensure law and order across the nation during the commemorations.
