Kenyan President William Ruto has jokingly expressed concern over the growing trend of Nigerian men marrying Kenyan women, playfully suggesting it could lead to a “brain drain” in the East African nation.
Ruto made the remarks while speaking at a wedding ceremony between a Nigerian groom and his Kenyan bride, as captured in a video shared on social media platform X on Thursday.
In a light-hearted tone, the President noted that his own daughter is married to a Nigerian and questioned whether Kenyan men are “slow,” given the increasing number of cross-national unions.
“My daughter is married to a Nigerian. This one now again is married to a Nigerian. And our guys around, I don’t know. Are our guys slow? So we need to balance this scale,” Ruto said with a smile.
He went on to joke that if the trend continues, Kenya might experience a brain drain, as more women form ties and possibly relocate abroad.
“Because at this rate, we are going to have a brain drain from Kenya. I think there is something between Kenya and Nigeria. So, we should build it further,” he added.
Despite the humor, President Ruto emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between Kenya and Nigeria, highlighting the deepening cultural and personal ties between citizens of both countries.
