Fuel Tanker Accident Causes Heavy Gridlock on Abuja-Kaduna Expressway

A lone accident involving a fuel tanker has caused major traffic congestion along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway, leaving many commuters stranded on Thursday morning.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), in a post shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, confirmed that the incident occurred approximately two kilometres after Jere, near Katari village. The tanker crash obstructed traffic flow, resulting in a rapidly building gridlock.

“There is an obstruction as a result of a road traffic crash that involved a tanker at about 2 kilometres after Jere, by Katari village on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway,” the FRSC stated.

The Corps urged motorists to drive with caution and maintain lane discipline as operatives work to clear the obstruction. “The Corps operatives are already at the scene making frantic effort to remove all obstructions hindering free flow of traffic,” the statement added.

Images shared on social media show frustrated commuters standing by the roadside after abandoning their vehicles in the standstill traffic.

Efforts are currently underway to evacuate the tanker and restore normal traffic flow on the busy highway.
