The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command, has launched a comprehensive traffic management and safety strategy to ensure a safe and seamless Eid-Kabir celebration across the state.
According to a statement released on Wednesday and signed by the FRSC Sector Public Education Officer, Mrs. Elizabeth Jayeola, the Sector Commander, Kehinde Hamzat, announced that the operation would involve the deployment of significant personnel and resources.
A total of 1,600 regular officers and 1,542 Special Marshals will be on duty, supported by 41 patrol vehicles, 10 power bikes, five tow trucks, and five ambulances. These will be strategically stationed along major highways and critical traffic corridors throughout Lagos State to ensure smooth vehicular movement and rapid emergency response.
The deployment is aimed at facilitating free-flowing traffic, prompt clearance of obstructions, effective enforcement of traffic regulations, and sustained public education during the festive period.
Hamzat noted that the FRSC would work in close collaboration with other security and emergency agencies to maintain order and safeguard lives and property throughout the holiday season.
He urged road users to obey all traffic rules, stressing that safety on the roads is a collective responsibility. He also advised commuters to plan their journeys early, avoid nighttime travel, ensure vehicle roadworthiness, observe speed limits, and always wear seatbelts.
The commander further cautioned against drunk driving, phone use while driving, and overloading by commercial drivers. He also reminded motorcyclists to stay off expressways and wear appropriate safety gear.
“FRSC personnel will maintain a strong and visible presence across Lagos during the celebration. The success of this special operation relies heavily on the cooperation of all road users,” Hamzat said.
