A suspected employment fraudster, Idris Adamu, voluntarily surrendered to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Gombe on Monday, confessing to impersonation and obtaining money by false pretence.
EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja, revealing that Adamu walked into the Gombe Zonal Command around 1:00 p.m. and requested to speak with the Acting Zonal Director, Deputy Commander Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad.
According to Oyewale, Adamu cited fear of the EFCC as the reason for turning himself in. “I came to repent of my sins and to confess to the EFCC,” Adamu reportedly said.
He admitted to fraudulently obtaining a total of N9 million from multiple individuals by falsely promising employment opportunities in federal government agencies.
After listening to the confession, the Acting Zonal Director commended Adamu for his honesty and directed that he be handed over to the investigation department for further inquiry.
The EFCC has assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the full extent of the suspect’s activities.
