As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative and in celebration of Children’s Day, Rite Foods Limited, Nigeria’s leading food and beverage company, has donated educational materials to 2,000 pupils across 10 schools in Lagos, Ogun State, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The donation, which includes school bags and exercise books, is aimed at supporting pupils in underserved communities on their educational journey. The outreach took place on May 28 and 29 in Ososa, Ogun State, and Oworonshoki, Lagos, respectively.
Demonstrating its commitment to sustainability, Rite Foods produced the school bags from recycled nylon waste sourced from its product packaging—such as Fearless Energy Drink labels, Bigi Water and Soft Drink wrappers, and sausage packs. This initiative not only helps reduce environmental waste but also educates young learners on recycling and the circular economy.
In Ososa, beneficiary schools included Moslem Primary School, St. Thomas Catholic Primary School, and St. John’s Anglican Primary School. In Lagos, the team visited Oworonshoki Nursery and Primary School, Local Government Nursery and Primary School, Ayeroju Nursery and Primary School, Mosafejo Nursery and Primary School, and Muslim Nursery and Primary School in Kosofe LGA.
Each school visit featured a funfair with refreshments and an interactive session where pupils learned about sustainability and the importance of turning packaging waste into useful items like school bags.
Ekuma Eze, Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Rite Foods, highlighted the company’s dedication to education and youth empowerment. “Our CSR efforts reflect the vital role children play in nation-building. By promoting education and sustainability, we are nurturing a generation that values both learning and environmental responsibility.”
Ismail Ganiyu, Head of Human Resources, added, “We are proud to support our future leaders with tools that foster academic growth and confidence.”
Dr. Chinedu Azih, Managing Director of Kazih Kits—Rite Foods’ technical partner for the project—remarked, “This initiative exemplifies the impact of aligning corporate leadership with grassroots innovation. Turning waste into hope for 2,000 children is both powerful and inspiring.”
Dr. Azih also noted the initiative’s alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
Leaders of the participating schools and local education authorities praised Rite Foods for the thoughtful gesture, noting that the initiative not only alleviates financial pressure on parents but also motivates students.
Idris Mukaila Olakunle, Head Teacher of Moslem Primary School, Ososa, expressed appreciation for the company’s generosity. Kehinde Dare, Chairman of the School-Based Management Committee in Kosofe LGA, commended Rite Foods’ commitment to the educational development of Nigerian children.
