Lagos Police Arrest Six Suspected Gang Members in Ongoing Crackdown on Crime

Lagos, Nigeria – The Lagos State Police Command has arrested six suspected gang members believed to be responsible for terrorising various communities across the state.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who revealed that the suspects, aged between 28 and 48, were apprehended during a routine patrol on Thursday.

“This operation is part of our sustained efforts to rid Lagos of criminal elements and improve public safety,” Hundeyin stated.

The suspects reportedly failed to provide credible explanations about their movements and identities when questioned by officers, raising suspicions. A subsequent search led to the recovery of two locally made pistols, 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 17 live cartridges, and an unregistered 1999 Toyota Camry.

Further investigations have linked the individuals to a notorious gang already on the police watchlist for criminal activities in various parts of the Lagos metropolis.

According to Hundeyin, the suspects are cooperating with ongoing investigations and have provided valuable information that could lead to the arrest of more accomplices.

“The investigation is still ongoing, and once concluded, the suspects will be charged to court,” he added.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to stamping out crime and ensuring the safety of residents. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.

“The police remain resolute in their duty to protect lives and property, and to maintain peace and security throughout Lagos State,” Hundeyin quoted the commissioner as saying.
