Ibadan, Nigeria – April 5, 2025 — The city of Ibadan played proud host once again to the 2025 edition of The Young Orators National Public Speaking Competition, an inspiring event made possible with the continued support of the Office of the Youth Development Agency, led by Honorable Prince Adebowale Falana, and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Affairs, Mr. Victor Olojede.
This year’s competition brought together 15 exceptional young speakers from across Nigeria for a week-long camp filled with training, mentorship, and a vibrant exchange of ideas. The finalists were privileged to receive visits from prominent Nigerians, including the esteemed Chief Dr. Ramata Agberemi Dabo (RAD), who generously gifted each contestant a monetary token in recognition of their efforts and participation.
Following a competitive semi final round, eight finalists advanced to the national stage on April 5th. In a tightly contested finale, Israel Bolarinwa, a 100-level Education student from the University of Ibadan, emerged as the 2025 National Champion. He will go on to represent Nigeria at the International Public Speaking Competition, taking place from May 12 to May 17, 2025.
Mr. Akinleye Olu-Phillips, Executive Director, Peat Philips Foundation and convener of the programme, emphasised the mission of The Young Orators to develop communication and leadership skills among youth. Participants described the camp as both intense and rewarding, thanks in large part to the tireless efforts of the national coach, Oluwaseun Olamipo Dawodu, who led a comprehensive training regimen focused on public speaking excellence.
As The Young Orators continues to grow in impact and prestige, it remains a beacon of youth empowerment and national pride.
