The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to the development of the South Eastern region, particularly Abia State.
Kalu made this remark during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Abia airport in Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area, Abia State, on Tuesday.
He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for approving the project and highlighted the South East Development Commission (SEDC) as another initiative that demonstrates the President’s dedication to the region’s growth.
The Deputy Speaker assured Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, of the Parliament’s support for the timely completion of the airport project through adequate budgetary provisions.
Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency in Abia State, played a significant role in attracting the project. He shared that he personally ensured the project letter was delivered to Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, the lawmaker for Isiala Ngwa/Isiala South Federal Constituency, to present it to Governor Otti for his approval.
He said, “I want to assure you that the President we have today is deliberate and intentional about developing the South East region. He is a lover of the South East. We thank you, Mr. President, for being intentional about Abia State.”
Kalu also promised Governor Otti continued cooperation to ensure the successful completion of the project. “We will keep looking for avenues to develop Abia State. Let’s all join hands and build Abia,” he concluded.
