Abia: I run an open-door policy, no one dictates how I govern – Otti

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has stated that he operates an open-door policy, has no political godfather, and does not allow anyone to dictate how he governs the state.

Speaking at St. James Methodist Church, Umuda, Isingwu, in Umuahia North Council during a Thanksgiving service organized by Hon. Smart Ihuoma, the Mayor of the council, Otti emphasized that while he listens to suggestions, he only implements those he considers sensible and in the best interest of the state.

The governor highlighted the challenges associated with political sponsorship, explaining that political officeholders often face undue influence when supported by individuals or groups.

“One of the challenges in politics is that when people enter office on the support or finances of someone else, it becomes easy for that person to dictate to them,” Otti said. “But I can assure you that we are standing on our feet. Our only godfather is the God in heaven. We operate an open-door policy, so we are willing to listen to suggestions, but they will not be treated as orders.”

He further assured that it was too late for anyone to derail his administration, emphasizing that his government is firmly grounded in God.

Otti expressed confidence that his administration’s achievements would set a standard that would make it difficult for individuals without substance to contest elections in Abia State in the future.

By the time we are done serving, those with nothing to offer will find it impossible to contest elections in Abia State,” he said.

He drew comparisons to Anambra State’s turnaround in 1999 under Dr. Chris Ngige, noting how Ngige’s short but impactful tenure set a standard that subsequent governors could not fall below.

“Since then, the people of Anambra have been vigilant in safeguarding their democracy to avoid returning to the bad old days,” Otti added.

The governor expressed satisfaction with the growing public interest in governance and reaffirmed his commitment to transparency through regular media engagements where he accounts for his stewardship and answers citizens’ questions.

He promised not to disappoint the people of Abia State and thanked the church members for their continued support and prayers.
