Peat Philips Foundation Partners with Wema Bank to Promote Literacy and Youth Engagement

Lagos, Nigeria — The Peat Philips Foundation (PPF), in line with its commitment to fostering a culture of literacy and empowering Nigerian youths, is proud to announce its partnership with Wema Bank as part of the Wema Connect initiative. Wema Connect is a groundbreaking reading community launched by Wema Bank, with the goal of reigniting the reading culture in Nigeria, particularly among the youth. This initiative recognizes the critical role that knowledge and continuous learning play in shaping the future, fostering intellectual development, and preparing young people for leadership in various sectors.

To commemorate the first anniversary of its annual reading campaign, Read That Book, Wema Bank hosted a special event in partnership with esteemed organizations, including the Peat Philips Foundation (PPF)The Neo Child Initiative (TNCI)Lagos Island Connect (LIC)Learn Africa Plc, and Stories by Bedrock. The campaign, which is a cornerstone of Wema Connect, focuses on two key areas: revitalizing the reading culture and empowering Nigerian youth through education.

The Read That Book initiative goes beyond simply promoting reading; it serves as a strategic tool to equip young people with critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills, thereby preparing them to face the challenges of today’s complex world. By fostering a love for reading, the campaign aims to inspire innovation and leadership among Nigerian youths.

Event Highlights:

The anniversary event featured a variety of activities designed to engage and challenge participants intellectually, including a Book Review CompetitionFireside Chats, and Gamified Activities. The highlight of the event was the Book Review Competition, where participants discussed and analyzed this year’s selected book, “How to Sell to Nigerians” by Akin Alabi. We are delighted to announce that the Peat Philips Foundation’srepresentatives emerged as the star winner of the competition, showcasing her remarkable insight and understanding of the material.

In addition to the competition, participants engaged in a series of gamified activities that tested their intellectual prowess in a fun and interactive manner, further underscoring the importance of continuous learning and critical thinking.
