17 bodies recovered, others in critical condition following fire that destroyed school in Kenya.

At least 17 pupils have been confirmed dead after a fire at Hillside Endarasha Primary School in Central Kenya. The tragic incident happened on Thursday night while the students were asleep. Kenyan Police spokesperson Resila Onyango confirmed the news to local media on Friday morning.

According to the police, a team of investigators has been deployed to the school to unravel the remote cause of the fire incident.

Similarly, the Kenya Red Cross said it is providing psychosocial support services to the pupils, teachers and affected families, and has set up a tracing desk at the school.

BBC reports that there are fears that the death toll could rise as more than a dozen others have been taken to hospital with severe burns.
