Reps Urge Canadian Government to Prosecute Nigerian Woman Threatening Yoruba, Benin People With Poison

The House of Representatives has formally requested the Canadian government to investigate and prosecute Amaka Patience Sunnberger, a Nigerian living in Canada, for making threatening remarks against Nigerians of Yoruba and Benin descent. This follows the circulation of a video clip on X.com on Tuesday, in which a woman is heard making anti-Yoruba statements during a TikTok virtual meeting.

The woman, identifying herself as a resident of Ontario, Canada, vowed to bring poisonous substances to her workplace and harm any Yoruba or Benin individuals she encountered. She justified her comments as a response to what she described as “hate” against the Igbo people.

In a letter signed by federal lawmakers Biodun Omoleye and Tochukwu Chinedu Okere, the House of Representatives expressed deep concern over Sunnberger’s inflammatory remarks, stating that they pose a direct threat to the lives and safety of millions of Nigerians.

The letter read in part, “On behalf of the Nigeria-Canada Parliamentary Friendship Group and the House Committee on Diaspora Matters, we are writing to express our deep concern regarding the actions of Ms. Amaka Patience Sunnberger, a Nigerian citizen residing in Canada.
