Tea vendor kills 20-year-old boy over alleged theft of bread

In Jigawa State, police have arrested 40-year-old tea vendor Abdulrashibu Ya’u for allegedly beating a boy to death in Dutse Local Government Area. The incident reportedly occurred on Monday around 5:00 p.m. in Sararai village. The vendor allegedly locked the boy in and beat him with a stick over claims of stealing bread, milk, noodles, and petrol.

According to a resident, neighbors heard the boy crying for help but could not enter the house due to the locked door. Police spokesman DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed that the village head reported the incident. Upon arriving at the scene, police found the boy, Hassan Garba, dead. He was taken to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect admitted during questioning that the boy had previously stolen his goods, which he had reported to the boy’s parents without any action being taken. Ya’u confessed to tying the boy up and beating him with a stick. DSP Shiisu stated that Ya’u will be charged in court and face the full extent of the law.
